Useful pump for DIY applications

Latest addition to the range of sprayer pumps available from Partmaster is the KAPPA 15 12-volt model.  This pump, complete with regulator, comes attached to a 12-volt motor, which makes it ideal for operation on ATV implements or on bakkies.  It is also useful, powered by the tractor's electrics, where an applicator is required on a planter or similar implement. It has sufficient capacity for up to six nozzles and can even be used as a pressure cleaner or small fire-fighting unit.

Capacity is 17 l/min at zero pressure, 12.1 l/min at 5 bar and 10.6 l/min at 20 bar and the unit has a carrying handle for portability and a base plate for when permanent mounting is preferable. Total mass is 9kg.

The first Duke of Wellington is credited as the driving force behind the creation of the first boot of this type in the early nineteenth century.  Initially they were made from soft calfskin leather and the Duke's aim was to have comfortable, serviceable boots.  Little did he know that his creation would be christened the Wellington and become one of the most popular items of footwear in the world.  In 1852 Hiram Hutchinson met Charles Goodyear who had just invented the vulcanization process for natural rubber.  Goodyear went on to become one of the world's leading tyre manufacturers but Hutchinson bought the patent to manufacture footwear and moved to France.  At this time, 95% of the population was working in the fields wearing wooden clogs.  The introduction of the Wellington type rubber boot was an immediate success as farmers could finally keep their feet dry.

In England they are called Wellies and are even used in a sport known as "Wellie wanging" where the participants compete to see who can hurl a wellie the furthest, this is very popular with Young Farmer's Clubs.  In South Africa of course they are known as Gum Boots, a name that has become known the world over because of the famous gumboot dances introduced by mineworkers and featured in many South Africa theatrical productions.  An interesting piece of trivia is the fact that before entering the mobile phone business, rubber boots were one of the most well known products of Nokia in Finland.
